The culmination of well over a year’s worth of research, reporting, and writing, my story about the environmental impacts of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was published by The New York Times.
Tracing Ukrainian prosecutor’s efforts to investigate hundreds of environmental war crimes and the tens of billions of dollars worth of damage to the natural world from a wide variety of direct and indirect impacts of armed conflict, I was fortunate to be given a chance to photograph, film, report and write the entire piece. That, however, masks the dozens of people, within the Times and externally, who were crucial to its completion and publication.
