Children, Darchen
Kids play with bubbles at dusk. Tibet, 2019.
Signed, open or limited edition fine art archival print.
“Darchen is a small town at the base of the sacred Mt. Kailash (5630 meters, or nearly 18,500 feet), in far western Tibet. It serves as the starting and ending point for the kora, a circumambulation of the mountain on a path that covers 56 kilometers, or 35 miles. The mountain is considered sacred by four different religions: Buddhism, Hinduism, Bön, and Jainism, drawing pilgrims for the high-altitude 3-4 day trek. On the evening before my own trek, while walking home from a local noodle shop, I saw these girls playing with bubbles as the last remnants of the day faded behind the neon signs.”
